BTW, Traci, I am glad that both your daughter and the cat were not hurt too badly and that your daughter is recovering nicely. But seriously, don't try to take food from a dog. It's an instinct. I once had a dog I had raised from a pup. Never once in his life had he ever growled at me. I forgot to put some medicine in his food one day after I had given it to him, and I reached for the bowl to take it back. I thought he was going to bite my hand off. Needless to say I "corrected" his behaviour.

I look after a Bichon regularly. Every time I go there I take her food away from her so she knows who is alpha. Her mum and dad have spoilt her rotten and she is very badly behaved but she gives me no lip at all.

But, Earl, a CAT is not supposed to be the dog's DINNER. Any dog.

Wich is why we taught - and still teach - our dog that her food is first and foremost 'our food'.
She's a dachshund and takes everything she finds in her mouth, every bit of waste she finds interesting. I had to take all sorts of stuff out of her throat allready since the command "let go" works only when I put new batteries in her ears.
Dachshunds have a very selective hearing. Like "come here" somehow translates into "run away" but "cookie" she understands perfectly.

My little Bichon friend is just the same, Pom! 'Come here' means 'sit down and look at you'. But 'carrot' is 'rush over and look up hopefully'.

A lot depends on the dog and the history. Being a rescue case we do not know the full history of our dog but we do know he was a working dog in the past. On rare occasions we have had to take 'food' away from him, usually when he has got hold of something he shouldn't be eating, and he is fine. A cat is a different story, chasing one is part in his DNA and I am not sure I would be brave enough to try and take one away if he caught it. Which is one of the reasons I try everything I can to prevent such a situation occurring.

Thanks, everyone. Her arm is doing much better, thank you!

It's always hard to figure out how much one should really be concerned and how much is "drama."

I think she's gonna be fine as does Sis The Doctor.

That is really good to hear, I hope the recovery is quick and easy for her.

Many years ago a chap I played cricket with was convinced to try out a dog, being told it was great with children. It was, I think, a Staffordshire bull terrier. He was a little unconvinced as the breed had started getting a bit of bad press. Anyway, he took it in on a short trial and the first day and night the dog was an absolute dream, good with, as advertised, Tim's child.
Come the morning Tim opened the kitchen door to let the dog out into the back garden and things moved quickly ... the dog rushed out, the cat on the fence made a run for it, made lighter by the lack of half it's tail, and Tim returned the dog ... ;)

You know something interesting (to me) just happened. A thread about a much loved Poser centric website being gobbled up by a competing company has just gone from upset and uncertainty to fruit and pet stories (not belittling Glitterati's daughter's injury at all). Other places would have seen this subject go from bad to worse in record time, but not here. Who are you people and what planet are you form? :)

Oh, no. Something strange is happening to me. I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. I don't know if I can stand the civility much longer.

Thanks, guys, for making me feel welcome. :)
