Oh yes...you think "I've finally washed my hands of the effects of it, and now I'm free to move on"...then something out of the blue will be a reminder that you're still very much human, and some things just take time :) For me, oddly enough, it was movies...I could go out to the movies with friends, be fine, and cheerful, and during the course of the movie might encounter scenes that were difficult to watch. I remember going with a group to see Tyler Perry's Diary of a Mad Black Woman, and nearly pulled the arm rests right out of the floor during the scene where he's beating her senseless...too much more and I would have thrown the uprooted arm rests right into the screen...haha. Afterward I'm thinking, get a hold of yourself, it's just a movie...haha. But the truth is, even our cells have memory, and unfortunately we don't come with an option to format and restore to factory....we can, however, use our experiences to help others, so in a sense they are turned around for a good purpose...and the more that happens, the more our perspective changes, so that we don't see our own pain as much as we see all the many lives touched by it..the kind of perspective that comes with age and those types of experiences.

I just noticed the threads about the RDNA merger...that was one of my favorite places, their sales were always so good. Now I see what all the rumble is about. That is truly a shame. They are saying the forum will remain intact, but I'd better back up my poor freebie thread, just in case...haha. How many times can that thing be moved, for pity's sake...haha. The first question that comes to my mind is, RDNA forum hosts the Poser release threads...it would seem DAZ would have Poser by the privates on that deal...haha. I think somebody needs to perhaps consider the potential outcome :)

...and I wish my brain had the memory that my cells have...haha...I think the movie might have been Woman Thou Art Loosed...both were very similar, but after considering it, I think it was Loosed. In both cases, seeing them once was enough, so a long time has passed since seeing either one.

I've just been reading through the RDNA merger info....checked, and sure enough, the Deep Freeze is gone. Wow, what timing...I just recently went through it thoroughly and grabbed some M4 stuff that was really marked down on sale. And I've always used it for cool props. Now it is gone. Good grief. I haven't felt this much regret over something since 3D Commune went down years ago. I've got all my content backed up...but I guess I'll have to prepare to have the account merged. A friend of mine had a kid years ago who, as soon as she learned to talk, was extremely outspoken for her age...she used to say "don't like it, don't want it" if food was put of her plate that was unappealing. I feel like that little kid....don't like it, don't want it...haha.

Yep. I'm not exactly thrilled with this merger, either. Okay, I'll be honest, it pisses me off because it smacks of yet another "buy it out and then bury it" move on Daz's part, just like they did to PoserPros years ago.

But well. I'm going to keep going forward. I still do a lot of Gen4 stuff... if I can't find a place to sell it, I'll just tuck it into my freebies with the rest. And maybe if I can get a better handle on Poser once again (or at least get to where I'm no longer cussing a blue streak at it every half a second...) then I could, potentially, maybe, at least have the ability to cross-platform what I make for figures, too.

EXACTLY!! That was the very first thing I thought of when I saw the initial post here in the forum. Here we go again!

What makes you think you couldn't sell it here? Chris, Lisa, and Alisa have all stated HiveWire will support both apps, so create away! :D

I would have to water a lot of the packs down so much that they would completely lose their feel. I tend to make a lot of combat/battle oriented things, and HiveWire is PG rated. Frankly, I'd rather put those things into my freebies than kill the whole feel of the package to meet the rating. And that's the same dilemma that a lot of the RDNA vendors are going to be stuck in, too.

Ahhh, very true. The one thing I liked about RDNA products were their uniqueness. I always felt it was a niche market. It's definitely going to be interesting to see where all the pieces finally fall.

OK, I'm exhuasted, and just realized I'm about an hour past my bedtime.

Night all, see you folks tomorrow.

Truly sad. I just made the rounds one last time over at RDNA. I like RDNA's "differentness", and there's only a few things I'd consider over the top for myself personally.

Seliah, give it a chance, why don't you run it by some folks here at Hivewire, let them determine whether it will fit here or not...just a thought.

I tend to agree, it's the only buy it in order to kill it trick again.

Yep. And part of that niche market caters to much darker themes that I'm just not so sure HW would want to have showcased in their store here. Daz is "saying" that they're going to take that stuff on.. but, well.. we will see I guess.

Obviously, I can cater any new stuff I make to be setup for the store's rating here (I do totally understand the reasons behind the PG rating. I do!), but the things that are already completed, such as my Sani... eh... there's too many maps that I would have to change, delete entirely, or do heavy edits to suit the store's standards. I'm better off just dropping him into my freebies. If he's eligible for it; I have to check his PSD file to see which MR skin I used. But that's just one of the packs. I do have SOME Gen4 stuff that would work fine in the store here, once I get around to bundling it all together properly for QAV submission.

Anyway. Have a good night, Miss B. Get some sleep. ;)

Combat and battle oriented means a lot of fighting poses, wounds/blood/dirt/grime involved textures and the like. Definitely more like a PG-13 or 17 rating.

Also, my Gen4 characters have their big boy and big girl hairs as options, both of which are No-No's for here. (Again, not put there for pornographic purposes, but because I prefer to do things thoroughly.) That last is easy enough to get around by cutting it out of the packs, but there's SO many maps just in the ONE character I would need to edit for the blood/wounds/scars related stuff.

Fantasy Attic sells all that stuff as well...

Yep. And that IS something I'm considering. I'm just kind of torn, because part of me really kind of wanted to just sort of stick to the one store (here). I have to think about it some more. Dana is also looking for vendors as well... and that's two possibilities... it boils down to whether or not I end up selling ONLY here exclusively, or end up selling in multiple places. LOL

You know, this monopoly thing has such psychological power over folks that I've never quite understood. Poser has just had it's 11th release, you'd think the users would be somewhat excited and producing new content, and creating freebies. Have you seen the Poser section of ShareCG lately.....hmmmm, I rest my case....haha. I always try to support the release with a burst of freebies that folks can use as starter poses for renders and content creation promos. I was out there all by myself this time. It's like Poser users have been shot with a stun gun, and they are doing nothing about it. DAZ is taking great advantage of that...or should I say some DS users who make comments...and we have to face the facts here...often the absolute worst advertisement in the past for DS is the behavior of some of their users. I'm thinking this is probably because they are typically younger....and you've got us old timer, unproductive Poser users sitting around on the expertise gained five or 10 years ago, watching the grass grow. No wonder we're easy pickin's for DAZ. Poser users can only sit around and talk about 3D for so long...before they become a forgotten relic. It's such a shame, the few faithful vendors who have supported Poser are getting kicked to the curb...again.

Am getting at least the scripts downloaded from my RDNA account, in case there have been updates for Poser 11.

It's a good time for me to thank Seliah again for being so helpful with DS...truly a refreshment from things I've observed in the past. I've been seeing this coming for a long time, DS will be something to reckon with...so, to us old timer Poser users, if you don't want to end up sitting around, watching the grass grow, it's a good time to get familiar with crossover work.

There's multiple issues where Poser is concerned, Sky. There really is. Whether we like it or not, Daz is setting the standard on the market. Unfortunately. Now, HiveWire is doing it's best to change that - and with clear, and mostly total cross-platform compatibility. But it's going to take time to fully get up there.

Another issue is that, frankly, SM's program "feature figures" are NEVER sold independently of the software. I like Pauline. I like Paul. Any idea how much I would love to make stuff for them? Problem? There's NO WAY that I am going to shell out half of my mortgage payment in cost to get P11 Pro, JUST to get my hands on Pauline, Paul, and the fitting room. By the time I have enough saved up for P11Pro, they'll be on to the next version. And at this rate, I'm not going to be willing to buy another 32-bit version of the software again, nor am I going to be willing to buy anything that isn't "Pro" because I need the content creator tools myself, as well. And Pro runs for about $500 last I checked, nor does SM offer any ability to pay with installments, either.

SM has priced itself out of the hobbyist market, with a hobbyist level product. That is another BIG problem.

And, and this is going to tick off some Poser folks as well - it can NOT make use of Daz's product types. Genesis 1 is my PRIMARY figure for artwork. I'm NOT going to fight with the DSON and HOPE that it works, just to use that figure. Whether we like it or not, Daz's figure bases are what a lot of the market drives on, because the underlying software is free and much more readily available to folks with very limited 3D budgets.

SM would need a way to natively support those figure bases in order to compete properly. At present, Poser does not and cannot without use of the DSON, and the DSON is no shining gem either.

And that's not taking into account that the G3's do NOT work with even the DSON converter, Daz has stated in the past that they have no intentions of MAKING them work, and at this point with the release of Connect-only products, an awful lot of Daz products are eventually going to not even be able to be imported to Poser without losing a LOT of their underlying functionality.

Poser is also LOADED with memory holes. Where I can set up ten figures, full clothes, full big, complicated and chock-full STUFFED with props scene, 11 different lights, all shadow casting, DOF camera, and.... render it in ONE pass in DS!!....

Poser chokes and dies on a single Dawn and Dusk with almost no background props.

All of the above is each one a striking blow on Poser. The combination is a landslide.

I ended up migrated to DS because I had no choice at the time. When I finally had a PC that COULD run Poser again, I discovered that Poser could not make use of the figure I immediately turn to for rendering, and the figure that I have so many of my story characters built on. Story illustration requires consistent appearance across the board in most cases, no matter what figure base I move to. By the time they released the DSON converter, I had just accepted the fact that I would have to stay within DS to render.

But I picked up the DSON and tried it out... and tried it and tried it and tried it, and I couldn't do jack squat without Poser crashing, or freezing, or weird bends or clothes that just would not fit the figure properly, among other things. I uninstalled my copy of Poser at that time and just went back to DS. It literally was not worth the headache at that point.

If I can't make my OC's on the new figures, I don't use the new figures. That story illustration thing is actually the BIGGEST reason I have not yet been able to shift completely over to Dawn and Dusk. They are lacking too many things that I would need for my OC's. Now, I'm using them more than I used to... but my primary figure is still Genesis 1, which Poser can't use without DSON and tons of bugs.

Now... would I like to see Poser succeed? Absolutely!! I would! Do I want to see Poser users be able to pick up content as they need to? Yes! (Why else would I still be hammering away at making Nataani Poser-compatible??)

But there's a lot that needs fixing with the software to convince me to upgrade any further beyond P10.

Now by the same token, yes, there have been some really obnoxious DS users and comments and attitudes from them. Totally, I agree! I've seen similar attitudes coming from the Poser camp though, too. It goes both ways, and it's wrong no matter which side of the fence it's coming from.

I HATE the program-war. I hate it. We're all in this hobby for the same purposes... to MAKE ART. Why the heck should it matter which canvas you use, and which canvas I use to make our art with? What the heck does it matter? It doesn't. Two programs, two flavors, two choices, everyone has the ability to pick the one they are the most comfy in and prefer. And that's a great thing. Two different tools, that serve basically the same role.

To me, there is no program-war. None. I know folks who are religiously Poser-only, I know folks who are religiously DS-only, and I know folks who use both, or at least support both. Nothing wrong with any of those groups, so long as basic respect is maintained.

Meh. I'm going to hush up here. I remember when the very first public beta of DS was released. Version 0.21-b or something like that. And the program war began. Even back then it annoyed me, because it's like two kids squabbling over toys that they don't even have to share with each other. WTF! LOL

And I'll shush there. ;)

Haha....you're entirely right. And I had not even thought of the figure availability outside of Poser. In the case of Paul and Pauline though, I don't think they'd work right in older versions of Poser. And those who do have Poser 11 just are not creating the content...nothing at all for Paul, and a few character sets and morphs for Pauline. It's bad enough that the DAZ models have always been better in function and appearance...Poser has so-to-speak shot its ownself in the foot by making their content exclusive to their program....I hadn't really thought about it, but I suppose they were they first to do that, they just didn't make a big splash about it the way Genesis was marketed.

I agree with you, that's why I'm willing to go ahead and learn DS....because I'm about doing 3D art, not about supporting a software war, or a store war....ooooo....we should start a comic....STORE WARS - THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK....heehee :)

I just thought of something...there were some cool Native American morphs that I had intended to get from RDNA...I think I may actually have one, but I don't remember seeing them the last time I looked on RDNA. Please don't tell me they are gone already. Whoever did them, they were very detailed...I'll try one more time to find them.
