Yup. Afraid with good reason. Then people come along and take advantage of them while ostensibly helping them. Happens all over the place and really annoys me. At least around here it's mostly rural and flat so people know that trees are wind breaks. In fact on the east side of town the city encourages people to plant rows of trees on their property lines for just that reason.

What I saw here last year was overworked roofers all the way into the fall because of a hail storm the October before which got followed by Goliath. No one who was a certified roofer had to seek out business. People came to them. My house only lost a dozen shingles to the blizzard but had enough hail damage that insurance paid to replace the whole roof. All we paid was the deductible and the cost of upgrading to metal. The shingles were in good enough shape to be used as a layer of insulation so that made the job easier and quicker for the roofer. Lots of other people also upgraded to metal. I think pretty much everyone who could afford to did as it stands up to the winds and hail much better than standard shingles.

Geez, hailstorms... Once when I was a little kid there was a brief one during a summer storm, the biggest chunks were maybe the size of small marbles, but most were the size of large peas... But the trees looked like they'd been hit by a shotgun blast.
But years later, back when I was in Illinois there was a bad hailstorm about twenty miles away, the next day I saw a car in a parking lot that looked like a million angry gnomes had pummeled it with hammers...
(I suppose it's possible it was unrelated to the storm as Illinois had a big gnome problem in the 90s)
Only the lower rocker panels were untouched, no glass except for the caved in windshield and every upper surface was destroyed... Even the grill and headlights were trashed
I know cars and it actually took me a second to realize it was a Oldsmobile delta 88...
Some of the dents looked like they were the size of a tennis ball, but most were golf ball size.
That was a scary thought... Imagine being caught out in the open in that.

I'm glad your insurance covered the damages and metal is a good upgrade... Plus, in the right circumstances it can have a soothing sound effect in rain.

The funny thing is some of the small roofs on my house are the opposite of yours... They are copper covered with asphalt shingles... The whole house may have once had metal, but it looks like it was very corroded so the main roof was replaced and the smaller ones covered up with asphalt.

Modern metal roofs are made with a descendant of the same tech as metal cars used to be. No corrosion because of how the stuff is produced. This roof will outlast the house now. Unless it gets hit by lightning or something like that. Basically the roof is more durable than the house.

I heard it raining early this morning, but the sun's out now, and the humidity has dropped.

Those are cool. I was envisioning something completely different.

:yeahthat: It's always the first Saturday night in November, and the second Saturday night in March (or at least it was this year). They always change the clocks around 2:00am Saturday night/Sunday morning. That way it doesn't interrupt anyone's schedule for work, school, etc. during the week.

I always change my clocks Saturday night before I go to sleep. Of course, with my particular "night owl" schedule, that could very well be around 2:00am Sunday morning. ;)

A bit foggy...

It was really foggy at 7:30 am... Probably less then 50 ft visibility... I took this at 8:15 or so...
Now looking at the picture, it seems like the dock and road edge on the bottom right of the photo has collapsed into the canal... It didn't look like that the last time I was there... Probably last week's storm.
That and the zero maintenance they do on that street.

I'm probably an odd duck, but I love foggy days (as well as rainy days and stormy days). Of course, foggy days ... as with rainy and stormy ... are best experienced cozied up to a warm fire or wrapped in a warm blankee.

It was sunny today, and there's a full moon out tonight, so the weather will probably be clear tomorrow.
