I'm not crazy about changing all the clocks twice a year either. It's such a PITA. At least my laptop, tablet and phones are done automatically. It's just annoying to have to do all the others manually. ~sigh~

I don't change my clocks. If they don't change themselves, they stay standard.

I find it easier to change the time in my head when everyone else switched to daylight savings. Then too, I tend to look at the computer or my phone when I need to know the time. As for my car, I'm only concerned with whether I'll be on time ... and since I already know the time when I leave, I'm really only paying attention to the "little hand."

Not that little hands exist on most clocks anymore
But those of us who learned to tell time by the big and little hands know what I mean.

Very true. Most clocks these days are digital. Well my old every day watch isn't. Come to think of it, neither is my gold watch the firm gave me for my 25th anniversary with them.

Don't think I've seen dress watches with digital faces.

I forgot to add the "*" explanation... Didn't I...
I hate Mirelurks too, but I managed to level up to the point where I can massacre them at ease them with that Lovecraftian sword.
But god they were annoying early on... I liked deathclaws more.
Thanks for the cheat, but sadly I have the game on console... Even sadder, on a PS4.
I'm glad someone got the Fallout reference... I have to send you some caps for that.
Seriously... I drink a lot of beer and I have been amassing bottle caps since FO4 came out...
I even painted a bunch red to fool the raiders...
I'm guessing the storm might be a little bad, but we get that kind of weather every autumn here... That and since News 12 L.I. is making it sound apocalyptic, I'm not too worried.
I really get nervous if they don't hype a storm... Then it gets bad.
They are really,really bad at the weather thing... Really... They once had a meteorologist who could not pronounce meteorologist... He would say "Meteourologist"...

It's not going to be much better here in the City. It's been raining since about 9:00am this morning. Going to the gym this morning wasn't too bad, but I nearly got drowned coming home, and crossing the streets wasn't easy, as there's lots of pools of water near all the corners. ~shakes head~

It's not going to be much better here in the City. It's been raining since about 9:00am this morning. Going to the gym this morning wasn't too bad, but I nearly got drowned coming home, and crossing the streets wasn't easy, as there's lots of pools of water near all the corners. ~shakes head~

Yeah, the leaves are gonna block up a lot of the sewer grates where you are... so look out crossing streets tomorrow as a lot of corners will be flooded.

Here everything is sand, so it's all very quick to drain off... Except for paved roads and parts of my yard that have clay under them... But it's just an inconvenience since I'm on slightly higher ground here.

It's been raining all day too... I had fun putting away all my construction crap and securing light things prone to fly away...
Which over the last few years has gotten worse since all the idiots around here bought into the "be safe and cut down all the trees on your property" philosophy that all the landscapers were selling... Problems is that makes worse problems as the trees were stabilizing the sandy soil and acting like wind breakers... Now these people are finding that if they had only cut down problem trees they would only have possible light damage from an occasional broken branch but now they are guaranteed wind damage every big storm... Last winter a big section of one of our fences was blown down because one of the properties next door is virtually treeless.
Trees are our friends... At least that's what the Ents tell me.

I love that people can be so stupid at times! Like the (wealthy) people down by the River Lune in Lancaster who responded to the councils urge to improve traffic flow by paving over their gardens to improve off-road parking only to find that their properties are now prone to flooding because the water has nowhere to go and to which they demand that the government do something about it!

Trouble is Miss B is that they tend to be the sort of self-opinionated people who prefer to find a solution by throwing money at it until it all goes bottoms-up at which point they expect somebody else to throw money at the problem until it goes away! Mind you, I must admit that given that they include one or two councillors amongst their numbers does cause some quiet hilarity amongst us commoners!

Wellll....... I've seen such nonsense around here as well. A number of years ago a Dairyman (milk is a huge industry here) decided to build an expensive home on this nice hill on his property. Instead of having someone take a VERY careful look at said hill before hiring the contractor he simply had them do the work. He didn't get to enjoy the house for long. The "hill" was actually a large sand dune.

Sometimes it's not just a problem for the dopes who just do what everyone else is doing....
I happen to like having woods out back, but as all the idiots around me removed trees, it caused problems, not just for their homes but ours too... And we get a lot of damage to the trees at the north edge of our property because basically that side is now a wind tunnel... It's frustrating because when I moved here it was because the properties were big and wooded... Now it's like everyone has to have white vinyl fences and bare grass yards... Fine if you are running a golf course, terrible if you like nature... It's really sad because in the past ten years the number of animals has decreased... We hardly get deer, I haven't seen any bats in two years and snakes and toads are rare now. I think if it weren't for people who over stuff their garbage cans, the possums and raccoons would probably decline too.
But in the case of the trees, it's not always a home owner's fault completely...
After the last hurricane tree cutting services went around door to door giving a hard sell story of how dangerous the trees are... You know they angry in storms and can attack your house ever from like 300 ft away...
One guy came to my house (actually a few, but this guy was "special") and started telling me all sorts of absolutely bogus crap about how sick the trees on my property were and that they could fall on my house and how he had seen tree like the ones out back get up rooted and fly into houses during the hurricane...
The trees he was pointing out were very healthy oaks that were well over 100 years old and would take a category 5 or more storm to send flying... 90% of the tree that did damage in Sandy had just fell over to my knowledge nothing large went airborne... And of those that did go down, many were ones that had their root systems compromised by bad landscaping or were made dangerous by overzealous pruning.
After listening to his BS story for a few minutes I told him to get the hell off my property and never come back... So he kinda half leaves and starts trying to convince me I need to remove trees... Apparently he was afraid of big yellow crowbars, cause he left when I picked mine up and started walking towards him.
Strange.
But chumps like that preyed on a lot of older people after the storms.

The "hill" was actually a large sand dune.

Its amazing what gets by in some places as far as homes going up in places that they shouldn't be... Or in the very least there being no special requirements to prevent damage or mitigate damage when natural disasters hit... Here a lot of the houses that were damaged were once tiny beach cottages... They were almost disposable homes, meant for summer fun and not much more... But over time people came in and bought them up and turned them into real houses or put larger homes there... By the late 90s some of these neighborhoods had mini-McMansions on these properties that should barely have had beach homes.
Most of those homes were ill prepared for a hurricane.

Luckily I live a bit further from that area and our house was built in 1917, with a stucco armored exterior under the siding.

Sandy was probably the worst hurricane we saw here in NY for many, many years, and it did a lot of damage, so a lot of folks were already afraid before these landscapers just made them more scared to NOT listen to them and cut down the trees.
