The Anchorage, Part 3

Lorraine

The Wicked Witch of the North
Hey dere everyone! Hope all is well in your nook in the world. Mine is full of fluff and legs (22 including mine!) and including unfortunately a piddly cat what sprays! I have to wrap my puter up in plastic before I go to bed to ensure that he doesn't get a good shot into its innards. It also peed on a towel covering the borrowed laptop and got a good shot at the coffee machine! Also we have ants...had to do an ant extermination inside the borrowed laptop yesterday. Two more weeks and I'll be back on my non ant infested and non piddly cat inhabited boat. I'm afraid I'll be telling Reece and Jo that I won't be looking after their menagerie again...I can't deal with the wildlife. I will miss Bruin the Wonderdog but I will not miss the cats!!!!!

Apart from that things are good ;) I'm still attempting to get better in iRay but not having a lot of success. I have dedicated this period ashore to mastering it while I have the unlimited power but up to now it's iray 9 Lorraine 0. Excelsior!

Morning all...glad to see you posting more Lorraine...enjoy your stay and being online!

I'm wanting to get a new computer so I can use LAMH as it drives me nuts at the moment and the computer seems to crash every time I render with it. I'm looking for suggestions on what would make a good system for 3D.

One more week and I'm on holidays...gotta love school holidays!
Pendraia! It feels like forever since I have seen your avatar! Welcome back!!:bounce:

Keep at it Lorraine. It took me quite a while to feel even comfortable with SuperFly in Poser 11. Something new always takes some time to learn, but you'll get there. :)

You said it Pen! My eldest girl Amanda is a primary school teacher and the dedication she has for those kids is amazing. That's why I tend to jump down anyone's throat who dares to criticise any teacher in my presence! Good on ya girl!

Dunno about my second childhood. I'm not sure I've left my first one yet. Of course I could have gone straight from one to the other without noticing! Ah well! o_O

I'm trying, Miss B, but it's a steep hill I'm climbing. And so hard to find good info.

Good point there Rob!
Pen and Lorraine both back! Yay!

Myth, while I fully understand your attitude about teachers I hope you wouldn't jump down the throat of someone grumbling about a teacher (probably long retired now) who happily said that he takes part of the grade from a student who is doing well and gives it to a student who is doing poorly and had the gall to claim that wasn't cheating! He cheated both students! His excuse was "That student is probably doing well in another subject." People wonder where this very badly done CORE thing here in the US came from. Teachers like that man are part of the answer.

Agree with you there Lorraine! That's why I've only ever posted one (1) Superfly render at the Hive! The problems not with Superfly itself but more with the 'experts' who love to tell us how easy it is then go on to explain that altering the parameters of the uberdonglies by x amount will result in our tingleberries becoming that little bit sparklier at the end of a 36 hour/day/month/year long render provided we're willing to spend some time altering the wappadoodles in the material settings so that Superfly can understand it! The keyword here is 'understand'. I suspect the solution may come when we find someone capable of translating Geekspeak to the Real English that the majority of us speak in our everyday lives!

Absolutely not Terre. As in all walks of life, there are bad teachers amongst a majority of good, often excellent teachers. The people I had in mind are the ones like a certain local politician of ours who was elected on the basis of doing their utmost to improve the lot of our public sectors workers like the police, health workers (nurses, etc) and teachers and then voted to restrict their pay to 1% or under whilst generally increasing their workload overall. Not coincidentally, his cronies in local government have been busy closing some medical centres, restricting funding to schools and shutting down half the kindergartens in the area. (A vital asset, given that most people in this area work in Lancaster and now have to pay much more for private minders or quit their jobs!). That's why the said politician got his ears shredded the last time I visited his regular 'public surgery session' and why he refuses to even acknowledge me when I see him in the street!

So true! If I watch another video where the narrator babbles how 'easy' it is to get great results I may scream! And the memory use is through the roof, DS keeps crashing everytime I change a setting and I have to start all over again. Not sure after 10 days of failure that it's worth keeping on trying. My rig is just not up to the job. I need way more ram and a hugely better video card.

Day 10 at the Menagerie. It's an overcast day with patchy sunshine and NOT COLD! That's the best bit, I'm so tired of being cold. It also looks as though Piccolo (AKA Piddly Cat) has not left his mark anywhere, another good thing!

I went to a talk/slideshow at the club on Friday night about NZ's recent America's Cup win in Bermuda. A family from Opua moved there for the duration, Manuela and the girls were going to just be living there and experiencing life but Manuela got bored and ended up getting a job managing the 120 superyachts that were there for the event. Chris was in charge of Team NZ chase boats, driving one on the water, plus heavily involved with working on the hydraulics of the boat. Actually, I hesitate to call them 'boats' considering they very seldom touched the water. Anyway it was interesting to hear about behind the scenes and all the shennanigans NZ fans got up to to thoroughly get up Larry Ellison's nose. So now the cup is back in Auckland and will be sailed on monohulls in 2021. I might even watch it if they look like proper boats with proper sails and crews.

It does help Lorraine! Since I upgraded to this new laptop I've found that I can handle things a lot better (and faster) than before. Then again it helps if the tutorials we resort to didn't have quite as many buzz words the creators seem to feel necessary if only to satisfy their own egos. And here was me thinking that a tutorial was intended to tutor the recipient. That's life though these days isn't it? Every group has to have its own buzz words designed to distinguish themselves from the herd. One of my particular favourites comes from real estate back when my girl and her (then) new hubby were looking for a place in Toronto and were invited to view a property which included 'an exclusive, self-contained, low maintenance recreational natural environment module!' That's a garden to those people who live in the real world!
