LOL Rae- well honestly yes a fuzzy winter horse coat preset would be cool (and it would be interesting to see a good mane and tail LAMH preset- haven't seen one yet that looks good/realistic, but I'm sure open to it:) but I much prefer to see our felines get some LAMH action before Harry.

I totally adore fuzzy winter coats and whiskers and furry ears on horses, especially backlighted in blue, wintery light... and would happily pay for the preset... but so many horses slick down in the summer, and get whiskers, beards even ears shaved- that I think Harry still looks drop dead gorgeous without the LAMH.

But I too hope the cats get it /them first. I was really amazed at how much the LAMH fur showed off the gorgeous modeling and stance of the Kitty. In that render- his paws and legs look EXACTLY like my cats!!! Not sort of, exactly. Very exciting stuff happening here.

@Jakiblue It'll be a freebie. :) I'm not gonna sell something other people could easily make with LAMH.

Here's a WIP of my remake. Pretty much done. It's hard getting it to look right, seriously. If people own LAMH, they can tweak it. It's a tad shaggier than a short haired cat, but that sleek look is hard to get. You can tweak shader settings too until your eyeballs bleed. I wish it was shinier. I'll start the long-haired tomorrow. Sorry it's the same pose as before. It's just a good scene for testing the fur. I'm going to bed. o_o

This looks amazing
- and I'll take your word for it being easy; I've never been able to get anything out of LAMH, Garbaldi I found pretty straightforward but LAMH just confuses the hell out of me.

I've never had LAMH going long enough to confuse me, it crashes every time. Presets I can use but not create.

Also Saiyaness, don't forget not everyone has the full LAMH but they do have access to the free one.
While I'm all for freebies, you could do a short, medium and long version and sell them even if they were cheap. I KNOW they would sell well.

Yea, I really hope that LAMH 2.0 will fix crashes and HOPEFULLY make things more compatible with iRAY.... one of the reasons I stopped using it because all the do this and do that to get it working in iRay...

Omg the fur will be an instant buy/download...I own the full lamh and can't make fur for the life of me the hair always goes inside the figure and looks horrid so I kinda just gave up on trying to learn it for the time being I justify my purchase of it to be able to use the furs in iray :) so I do think you could sell it too :)

Fortunately I don't get many crashes now with LAMH, and I find the export import of the fur/hair pretty straightforward, it's just rather resource hungry.

This is the most beautiful and realistic cat fur I've seen. I love the orange here, but am hoping to see it in other colors as well.

The fur picks up the color of the texture underneath. Grey and white texture = grey and white fur. Orange and white texture = orange and white fur.

ETA: At least it does in 3DL. I imagine its a case of settings. I think I've seen fur that was given a different color that the underlying texture. But the default at least used to be to take the underlying texture color and pattern and just project it through the fur.

ETA 2: Now someone needs to do a shader that shows the cat hair on your clothing. You know there's no escaping it.

Fur picks up on the underlying texture by default, but you can set it to act differently, e.g., blond roots, black tips, etc.. Iray works the same way, the obj/fibermesh export is UV mapped in some way, and a new texture image is generated (which doesn't look like anything at all). You can use the same fur preset on any color of base animal you want, as long as you apply the base materials you want before loading the LAMH preset (or after having lots of "fun" with the full LAMH to change the texture references).

In this image, I exported the hair as fibermesh, and then applied the texture map that had been generated from exporting AM's new red squirrel. That way I still got subtle differences in hair color over the surface of the fur. I have also used the hair shader presets from MEC4D's "Unshaven" series with good results. View media item 3084

This is wonderful! I have DAZ, but not LAMH - I think my computer would grind to a halt if I tried to use it. Love your kitty though :)

If you render in 3Delight, LAMH has no impact on computer performance. It is only when you export the fur geometry that computers grind to a halt. This is supposed to be resolved in LAMH 2.0, but there is some reason that keeps the creator from releasing it.

You don't need the full LAMH to use preset, though, just the free player which is at DAZ.

Awesome! :squee:
I was never too happy with all the 3D cats, they just didn't have the cuddly look I associate with cats. But with fur it looks absolutely gorgeous! I think it's very generous of you to offer it as a freebie, I'd pay for it too :)
