The Anchorage, Part 3

Swam...be honest some bugger over there pinched some and you've been complaining about it ever since...;)

Good to see you Lorraine...

Terribly sorry about the theft of said were-possums, will have them crated up and sent back forth with and straight away. Will take a while as 40,000,000 will take some time ;)

And it's NOT hot as Hades and humid to boot in sunny, windy Opua. At 3am it was down to 2C and I stopped looking, it has crept up to 10C and soon I must brace wind and temp to climb onto the roof and pour another 10L container of diesel into the hungry maw of the heater. It's school holidays here and I feel for the innocent tourists wandering our streets searching vainly for the 'Winterless North' sold to them by unscrupulous travel agents. I know it's vainly cos I've been searching for the bloody place since 1981!!!

Not spamming just wanted to say it's very cold here also...we don't get much above 15C at the moment and we have hail predicted for the weekend...there goes any thought of going for a walk this weekend.

@Rae, I have some fingerless gloves I bought for typing when it gets really cold.

Satira told me about a pair she got, and I tell you, it's not a bad idea.

I have fingerless padded gloves I wear under my boxing gloves, but they're too bulky to wear while I'm sitting here working on the computer.

So do I...but as it looks like rain and I have a plumber coming I'm waiting until he's been and gone to set it up.

I just have a couple of pairs of knitted ones...I wear them on yard duty also to keep my hands warm.
I had a pair of light weight leather ones I used to wear under my shearling mittens, so I could take the mittens off while driving to and from work. That way it wasn't hard to touch the steering wheel, which was usually like a piece of ice, especially on the way home, as I parked in an outdoor parking lot near my office.

So.... They call the North Winterless because there's no snow? Got news for them. It can be negative temps in the scale we still use here in the States and still not have snow!

ETA: Just had a mind boggle moment: Travel Agent selling vacations for destinations in the nation in a nation as small as those two islands. Boy is my sense of scale different than you guys.

When we migrated to Australia in the sixties the ads said, come to sunny Australia. On the day we arrived in Sydney it was raining. How's that for irony?

Growing up we lived in Melbourne where we can get all four seasons in the one day.

I think I'm gonna be an indoor human today... Okay, indoor whatever I am, but I'm not melting outside today again.
Yesterday it was 92°F (33°C) and hovering on the edge of rain...
Like that 99.999999999999999901% humidity where it pretends it's about to rain but it won't.
I'm not looking forward to the gross humid part of the summer.

Extraordinary
It was 25°C in Dublin last Saturday, but those days don't happen more than a couple of times in summer. I mean it rained on Sunday and was down to 14°C. :( If Ireland was only 300 miles South, it would be as warm as Spain.

When I was a kid I'd go to Italy (Sorrento) to visit my father sometimes in the summer.
It gets hot there, but it is mostly a dry heat... Dry desert heat I'm okay with.
Officially they say the hottest month is July, with an average temperature of 24°C (75°F)... But since it is mountainous, the temperatures really vary...
I'm suspecting that average is in the temperate levels... Some areas, like down by the sea or at certain points on the cliffs are just baking deserts... complete with cactus and scorpions.
I miss swimming there and being a stupid unsupervised kid chasing lizards and catching sea life and whatnot...
All I've got here is now is huge mosquitos...
High temperature humidity sucks... Purely and absolutely.

Actually, I could drive down to the beach near me as it's not so bad there... but at this time of day there are people there.
Peeeeeeeople.... Yeek...

Lol McGyver...thats not hot...we generally get high 30's in summer. I still remember the year we had a string of days that were all around 42-45 and my skinny candles melted.
