SOLVED - Help Needed please - Opening Duf Files in Notepad, newly created ones gobbledegook

Hi, not sure if this is the correct place to ask this. But I've just created some new Mat files and when I open it in Notepad it doesn't look the same as the older files.

I've attached copy of what it should look like (the readable one) and a copy of what I now have (looks corrupt or encrypted or such?)

I haven't done anything different to the way I normally do it (and the mat files still work fine for me).
I'm running Version 4.9.3.166 Pro Edition 64bit. (I did try re-saving them in 4.8 but got the same gobbledegook)

Yes Prixat, to take out the excess info in front of the runtime so anyone can use the mat files without call-outs :)

Interesting. When I save materials DS always saves image path as relative path, Runtime/ and so on.

Mine always has "test" folder etc in front so I need to remove that if its going to be a shared/sale product. It might be because I'm not saving in the default runtime but I'd never find them otherwise :D

My basic layout of content-sets:
product-dev:
-product dir
-needed dir (if product is addon)
-dirs needed for promos
product-beta:
-product dir
-needed dir (if product is addon)

And main set(s) for renders.

I don't think it matters much where the mat files are (as long as they are in the correct folder for that product eg: Clothing if its such) its the texture one that need to be correct and not everyone has a "test" folder on F drive like I do so that needs to be removed :D so it just reads "runtime/textures" etc without anything in front)

Yes, so the textures go to \Prods\dev\prod-name\Runtime\textures\... from the begining. But it just my [code-monkey :)] habit.

Yep but the "\Prods\dev\prod-name" bit needs to be removed for sale items. (which, going back to my original post, I couldn't see because I had compression on) :D

Mmm did not know this (I'm pretty sure I was told to remove all before the runtime, I'll have to see if I can find where I read that once I'm out of bed :p)

DS normally saves it properly...I have heard something about Poser having problems way back but I thought that had been fixed. I don't remember changing it for Diva.

Welcome to the Hive Prixat...and yes you can edit DS files I do it all the time with morph files so I can reorganise them in the parameter tab.

LOL, I post so infrequently, that every time I post I keep getting welcomed. Thanks :geek:

I wanted to say that many editors, for example 'Notepad++' understand the JSON format that DS uses and will display it more legibly (once you have uncompressed it).

haha its most likely because it says new-bee under your name :)

Yeah my problem was I had forgotten to uncheck the compression when saving the mat files. They open just fine in Notepad++ when its not compressed :p
