How do I delete duplicate brushes in Texture Paint mode?

I'm trying to get my head around Blender, I do like it allot but it's a bit daunting.

I've had some issues in Texture Paint mode getting the brushes to work. I finally got a brush to work but in the mean time I've created a bunch of duplicates that are non functional or as I like to say "empty brushes" that are just taking up space and confuse me a little. Even the default brush doesn't work but brush #9 (duplicate) functions as it should. I've searched hi and low for a simple explanation on how to delete unwanted brushes but every Blender forum I search on points me to unhelpful articles.

Thanks for the assist!

I found this with a first try in Google:

The deleting process is, click on the Brush you wish to delete. In the tool panel and Shift click the X to delete. Then you can see a zero before the brush name in the pop-out tool-shelf. Then you save and re-open or Revert - the brush will be gone.

Here is the results link for my query: How to delete unwanted brush in Blender

Hope your OK Dana!
I did yard work on Sunday, the 11th...it was the only good day for it, rain was expected for an entire week, and the grass and weeds were getting long. First did the edgetrimming. Then got the battery out for the mower, and felt bad...was leaning against the corner post of the deck...next thing I knew, the back of my head was banging on the pavestones. But, it didn't hurt like it should have. I came inside, had some water and rested, actually fell asleep for a while. Diane got home and I told her what happened, but I had to go out and finish the work. I get complaints from the HMO over things like that, have to keep the weeds neat at least. Felt OK until later that night, when I discovered why my head didn't hurt...the rest of my body took the brunt of the fall. Three areas of my back hurting, and both knees. I must have twisted as I went down. Knees still hurt, and back still hurts today, but the knees not as much as before. If the back continues, I'll talk to my doctor...although, I don't think there's much that can be done. I hate the idea of ringing up more bills for specialist to look, X-rays and such. But, we'll see. It's not debilitating, just mostly annoying. Meantime, the grass and weeds are getting long again.

Thanks for your concern!

WOW, no fun. Just glad your OK. Have you tried some of the icy hot patches? Since you have a wife she could place them where they need to be to help reduce the trauma pain. I'm going through a bunch of crap with my shoulders and my right knee, not the knee cap but the connective tissue on the right side. Feels like a shin splint from running but I don't run so it's really a PITA to live with. I'm sending off for these from Amazon

@Miss B Do you know how to delete unwanted brushes other than what Dana suggested? It's probably an easy thing to do but selecting a brush in the tool panel just enables is and there is no delete option that I can see.

Sorry Rich, I haven't given the latest version of Blender 5 a try yet.

Hmmm, Ok. Is there a way in the older version of Blender that your still on to delete duplicated brushes?

OK, after much sloothing I got it figured out.

Go to the side panel and under the Brush settings choose this menu, click on that and up comes all the brushes. Under the Operations drop down choose to Delete Brush Data. Brush goes away!

Now if I could just figure out how to rename the brush that actually works, Brush 09 to perhaps Brush 01 I'll be a happy camper. Just happy to have all those "empty" brushes gone.

How about making it the active brush and Apply an Icon to it! At least it makes it recognizable as the one you want. Just a thought.

Figured that out as well. When your brush is selected you can double click on it's name and rename it
