Community Question

I just had someone pre-test a pack for me. They asked if I was going to make the Daz Studio pack a separate product from the Poser pack. I have almost always put both Poser and Daz Studio files for the same outfit into one product. Lots of people use both programs and want both.

I think that this person may have been suggesting that they sell better when separated. This was surprising to me. But then I notice that one of my Star! outfits that I did the Daz Studio files long after I had made the Poser version so there are 2 separate packs, has sold 4 times as many as any of the Star! outfits that have both versions in them...it has 'in Daz Studio' in its name.

I'd like to hear what the community thinks about this issue...vendors, customers and admins.

Thanks

To be honest, I'm not sure. I know HiveWire products, those created by Chris, Paul, et al., are always both versions in one product, but I believe that's not necessarily a rule of thumb for CAs.

I, myself, have always used one or the other, mostly because when I was using older versions of DS, those are the textures and DS files I was interested in. Of course, that didn't stop me from using Poser products in DS, but as far as textures go, they always had to be tweaked if only Poser textures were available.

Since I haven't upgraded DS 4 past it's initial 4.0 Pro version, and am now back to using Poser the past 2 or so years, I'm no longer that interested in the newer DS products, and prefer Poser only products. That said, however, doesn't mean I wouldn't buy a product that's available for both. Not all CAs have both apps, so they only produce for the software they use, but if you create for both, than I don't see why they shouldn't be included in one product, UNLESS, as you mentioned, the second version is created at a later time.

Just my 2¢, FWIW. :)

While you can do it either way, we strongly recommend that you have one product with both DS & Poser version in it.

If the CA can support both, then for me I would say I would prefer both versions in one product if the same price as a single version.

I'm with Digi...I would prefer both in one product but can understand that selling a single version at a cheaper price might actually produce more sales of the cheaper version. I use both programs and I didn't realise that I only had one version on some things until I went to use it in the other program. That's not so bad when it happens in DS a I can normally get it to work but in Poser it has driven me crazy.

Just as another thought... I was Skyping with a friend who uses Daz Studio only and she said that she truly dislikes buying a product with both Poser and DS in it because she feels that she is paying more for the product for files she won't use. I explained that I charge the same price whether it has both files in it or not and she said I shouldn't...that it should be more if both files were in it and in her mind she just feels that she is paying more no matter how much the price is. A perception thing I guess.

It is a perception thing and I don't think she is in the majority. I believe most people feel as though they are getting ADDED value by having both products in the same file. What she is not getting is that those who use both programs do NOT want to pay a ton more to get BOTH versions.

As a DS only user the question is moot to me but I have my 2c to say anyway. I like to see a product include both Poser and DS because it suggests to me the inclusive feel this store has. The feeling that whichever software you use is irrelevant because HW is for both. I like that. Back to being moot ;)

It is definitely tied to perception. It's best to include both versions in one product. We have artists who only knew how to do it in one version and then later learned the other. That's where we chose to use the Product Stacks. But it's a better idea to plan on both versions in one pack from the beginning. It's easier to market that way.

I don't use Daz, yet.
But as a customer I like having both options in one product. Now I'm back trying Daz again and I have all these items ready and waiting. No need to go and buy stuff.
I think having both in the pack with each theire own zip is excellent.

I would agree with this. I really only use Poser, but it's nice to know I have the option if there was something I needed Daz for. Also I've done enough shopping of 3d stuff now, that I generally have in my head what a good price for a product is (at least from my point of view). If something looks overpriced to me, I don't really care if it's for one program or both.

As a vendor I've started putting both together in one pack.
When I buy, I prefer it that way as well.

The downside to both in one pack though is that some people may assume the version shown is not compatible with their software. Or if it doesn't specifically say 'for Studio' or "for Poser', it is not for them. As Lisa said, it's a perception problem.

We ALWAYS indicate in the short description on the product page "Compatible with Poser" "Compatible with DAZ Studio" "Compatible with DAZ Studio and Poser" or words to that effect in bold letters.

Having learned that there are more people using both programs, it just makes more sense to combine them.
A few people still use just one or the other but that is changing.
And, as Alisa said, it is stated on the page that it works in both.

I will say I'm very careful about checking for this sort of thing since I mostly use Poser. Once or twice I have accidentally purchased something like a prop, where I didn't check, and found that something doesn't work right. That's not common, and it hasn't happened on this site, but it's one of the reasons I haven't bought any prop sets from Daz for a while. Most of the newest ones are labeled for Daz 4.9 only, and so I really don't know if they'll work for me in Poser or not, and I don't like the taking the chance.

More than likely not GG. If it states DS 4.9 only, then it's in DUF format, and there's no OBJ, which is what Poser uses.
