(Seeing a pattern lately?)
This image was created using Prang colored pencils, with 3.5mm cores. It was rendered on a medium tooth drawing surface, found in a leatherbound, Tara sketchbook (8.5 x 11 inch). The entire piece took me about Seven hours to complete (this is a guesstimate, as I was not keeping track of time, and there was much start/stoping). I am particularly happy with the effect of the grass. It was cropped slightly when scanned, but nothing important was lost, still I will make a better scan later.
This image is replete with symbolism and metaphor. Many who look into it and think they have seen what I intended always miss something. There are messages within messages, layered onto each other. Everything, from the ceramic masks, to the eyeball, to the gravestone, to the grass, has a meaning. I could spend hours explaining, though I felt when drawing it that they were all self explanatory. If you feel so inclined, let me know what it means to you.
