BACKGROUND:
This is a depiction of a necromancer who has made terrible bargains and pacts. As he is alone in his study he feels the weight and pain of the terrible price he must pay bearing down on him. I think it captures the anguish quite well.
This image was created entirely with a Number two, hard lead pencil (those are almost impossible to find nowadays, but I still have a few in my stockpiles). The image was created on a medium tooth drawing surface, found in a leatherbound, Tara sketchbook (as are most of my works). The original image is 8.5 x 11 inches. Originally I started this work in 1995, but I kept putting it off and setting it aside for long periods. I was in no real rush to get it done, and didn't want to complete screw it up, as I was happy with the way it slowly progressed. All in all, if I had to guess, I'd say I had maybe 10-12 hours of actual work in this piece, in small 20 minute increments over the years. As with many works, as I got closer to the end I started rushing it...still I am happy with it over all.
