The Anchorage, Part 3

Lorraine

The Wicked Witch of the North
Morning all! All calm still here in Opua and our weather forecast has been downgraded from storm to gale. That is a good thing. Cook is forecast to make landfall at 6pm further south hitting Great Barrier Island first and then swinging inland and down the North Island during the night. Not going to be a fun night for anyone down there. Take care, Dreamer!

This is the latest. It's tracking down the east coast and is expected to arc across and down the North Island from Coromandel.

It's all gone through and is now beating the hell out of further south. I'm sitting here in my chair, the only thing I can hear is the tinnitus in my ears, and I'm just finishing off a bottle of merlot which could be what's causing the tinnitus. I could be wrong, I sometimes am. Went ashore earlier and joined a cabin fever curry party where most of the merlot was drunk, and after most of the merlot was drunk, so was I, mildly. Am hoping/praying that we get some dry weather now and the river goes back to its normal murky green instead of something you can throw spuds into and expect a good winter crop.

OMGosh. Apparently, the NFL Draft will be held in Philadelphia April 27 to 29. I had no idea this thing was an event ... nor that it drew thousands of spectators. I certainly didn't know either that it took place in different city every year. Soo ... this is why my commute home has been so horrible all week as two lanes on the Parkway in front of the Museum have been closed for construction of stands and whatnot. I thought it was just yet another weekend regatta event. But no. It couldn't be something so easy. Middle of next week, the serious closures start, with the Parkway no longer an option for my commute. So ... I have to find another way to commute to work. Like there are any other feasible ways to get to work without adding a lot of crawling time.

The city is so thrilled to have the event as it will bring in sooo much money. Which doesn't really benefit anyone. It just goes into the pockets of corrupt officials. Now, the residents and commuters are not at all happy about it. More and more events are being held on the Parkway/Museum area, which causes nothing but chaos and inconvenience for everyone. Given it's one of the few major commuter routes, the city really needs to find somewhere else for these events, or they need to build another bridge. Apparently, the city did suggest other sites to the NFL Draft organizers, but they insisted the event had to be at the museum so the draftees could run down the museum steps (made famous ... or infamous? by Rocky).

Better yet, my employer should just let those of us affected by the closures to telecommute.

Or build that deck to the Schuylkill Expressway so it can handle twice the volume. Such a misnomer. It's anything but express!

I avoid taking it because traffic just crawls during "rush" hour.

I don't envy you Satira. Put the telecommute bug in your Supervisor's head, and maybe you'll get to avoid it.

:)So happy that it missed you Lorraine. I've had the Coastguard keeping an eye out just in case Sans Souci turned up in Morecambe Bay! :whistling:

Hope you get to enjoy some of the long weekend, Dreamer!

Cracker day here, glorious sky tonight and watched the moon come up over the hills and shine out over the water to me. Bloody lovely :)

Good to hear you are also ok Dreamer. Get well soon!

I have one of those supervisors who refuses to commit to anything ... especially on paper. Nor can you depend on anything he says (which is why he refuses to document anything). Putting a bug in his ear would be worthless since first ... he'd just say we can't do that. And second ... even if he were to take our concerns to our boss, he'd get them all screwed up.

In our Wednesday meeting, he said the reason we'd switched to VisualSVN for source control was because everyone said they didn't use Subversion. Umm ... no one said that. Everyone used Subversion.

He also reminded us we need to keep all user activity forever now instead of deleting it after a year or so. He also said I had stated I needed to delete those records periodically.
Which is not anything I'd ever said. What I said was that we (all the developers) had been concerned keeping the user activity history indefinitely might cause performance issues. Which is why it had been decided we only needed to keep a couple years worth. Although, my client asked that we keep at least two Fiscal Years worth, I have never deleted or archived the user activity ... nor have I ever intended to.

Maybe I'll just take Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays off for the next two weeks!
