Thanks, you all, for the well wishes. :) I hope you have a great day.

So this is weird. This morning, I got an email that looked like it was from me, to me, entitled Document 2. Since I didn't send myself an email entitled Document 2, I prudently did not open the thing.

Did anything like that happen to anyone else?

I got the exactly same email my self. Didn't open it. went straight to delete.

So it probably is forum related, somehow. Sorry it happened to you, but I don't feel so much like a pariah now. ;-)

I did post a note at DNA, thinking if it was forum-related, more people might see the message there. I also found one forum profile, where my email was automatically entered, but I edited the email address out as quick as I found it.

Did the email look like you sent it to yourself?

I had two of those Document 2 emails at work this morning. One arrived at 6:30 am, and the second about an hour later. I deleted both. If it's an email I don't recognize or one I didn't expect, I never open them. If I'm unsure whether it's legitimate, I always contact the person it supposedly came from and ask if they sent me something.

Just no way am I ever going to open a suspicious email.

I don't use my work email address anywhere not work related, and have never used it here. So ... not sure how it could be related to the forums.

I'm sorry, Lorraine, dearest. I didn't mean to de-rail your thread.

Not derailing AT ALL, Jan. I don't know how much you peeps have read about ransomeware but some are activated (at the mo anyway) by opening a empty document with a malicious macro in emails. Microsoft are advising that you have macros in MS Office turned OFF and the code will be foiled if the document is accidently opened.

I cannot say "good morning" this morning because it is a CRAP morning! It's blowing 40 illegitimate children and raining to boot. YUCK! So I'll say "morning!" instead ;) Joycie and I will be keeping our heads down and our bodies dry and not venturing out into it. Was going to go do some grocery shopping but it can wait!

Maybe you're right, I hope so -- maybe not forum related. When Ghostman said he got the same thing I did, I had an idea about how things could've happened. But it's got nothing to do with Hivewire. Nothing at all.

Satira, do you remember whose name was on the heading of those Document 2 emails? God, I hope it wasn't "jan" something.

Thank you, Lorraine. :) That was my worst case scenario this morning -- ransomware. Looking like it came from me. And that's why I didn't open Document 2, even the header. Well, really, I didn't think about the header at the time, or checking for the real IP address. I thought about that after I deleted Doc 2.

Anyway, other than the spamming, I hope everyone had a good day. If the spam looked like it came from me, I'm sorry, but I didn't do it.

Wow, I'm sorry! That's a lot of...um...kids. :) I haven't heard that one before. I despise yucky mornings. I don't mind a shower, along and along, but storms are no fun.

Hug Joycie for me. I just doctored Dolly's eyes, and she's mad at me. I know they feel better though...her eyes.

Hi to Terre and Pen -- and anyone else I missed speaking to this morning, in the midst of my email woes.

I thought I shouldn't use the, um, 'common' terminology for said children...you know, family forum etc ;) We Kiwis tend to use that particular word a lot!

Will do, Jan :) She knows her Mum and Dad are coming back today cos the sheets came off the bed. She is now lurking by the front door but she has a long while to wait...they haven't even left Sydney yet. Poor Dolly, she doesn't know it's because you love her that she has to have the drops. Funny wee things, aren't they?

GOod evening. ;)
I hope your weather gets better soon, Lorraine.
I haven't seen any emails like the ones you guys are talking about but the one at work does get some spam. Mostly from someone claiming there is an unpaid invoice. Pfffttttt.

I deleted the emails unread. I never ever open anything suspicious. Not even at work where someone else would have to take care of the problem if it was a virus or some other nasty.

Afternoon all...I haven't seen any emails either.

Sorry to hear about people getting weird emails.

Lorraine, I think you weather is supposed to arrive here tomorrow. We had a beautiful sunny day that reached into the high twenties but tomorrow is supposed to be yucky!

I do too, I just hover over the link out of curiosity and the name is some babble about an unpaid invoice. LOL (It is also flagged as junk so I only know we have gotten another when I see something in the junk box. I then take a peek to see who that is from because some of the people we need to get emails from (including several from people at the warehouse) somehow have been flagged by Outlook as junk so I have fto fish them out.)
Now there is an invoice we are supposed to be getting that way and the supplier is supposed to be getting that straightened out but I know they will be sending it that way.
Oh, I'm the one who looks at all but a few of the store's emails as my job puts me on the computer far more than any one else. I had the email set up to begin with anyway so it kind of is my responsibility anyway.

That was the weird thing. Nothing appeared when I hovered over the ME.

Of course, when I hover over a legitimate me, it shows my name, email address, etc.

The all caps ME also raised a red flag since Gmail displays the me in all lowercase.

:) Animals are strange little creatures, and they are very, very smart. I hope Joycie has a wonderful reunion w/her parents, although I know you've been wonderful with her. And I hope the hurricane has passed!

In my email box, the recipient's name shows up in bold black. Good thing, because I got another email that looked like it was from me this morning, but the name spelling was altered. "Don't work one way, we'll try another." I couldn't make out the IP address, by hovering, so I just deleted it. And I got something last night that said, "Voicemail" with a long string of numbers after it. I read that the "Voicemail" thing is a trick that bootleg pharmacies use to lure in customers.

It's not hard to think of ways my email address might've got leaked, BUT -- taking the state of the world, online and otherwise, into consideration -- email addresses can't be too hard to come by these days. So no sense pointing fingers. I'm super-cautious, too, about opening emails. Even from real world friends and family. I never thought the leak happened thru the HW forum though. Emails aren't viewable anywhere, here, that I've found.

Hey, Pen. :) Thanks for the email commiseration.

All righty, I hope you all have a wonderful day, and that the weather is lovely, where you are. :)

Hmmm, my notification little red alert seems to be intermittantly missing in action from this thread.

So hi Terre, hi Satira, hi Pen...only a few hours late

Joycie's mum and dad arrived safely through the storm and Carole said it was really frightening. I do wish they had stayed the night in Auckland...I was worried about them the whole time they were on the road. It's now blowing even harder than this morning and there's a heavy rain warning out. There was a gust recorded at Cape Reinga of 146kph/78knots/90mph at 9pm and things are not getting any better. Hope Sans Souci is riding out the storm ok...I'll find out in the morning. Catch you all later :inverted:

Hi Jan, we cross posted :) And no, the storm is worse tonight but I'm not on the boat so I'm quite safe. Joycie got so excited when she saw her mum and dad she forgot to breath! She had to go and have a lay down after the welcome was over ;)

Hope you and Dolly have a lovely day :sun:

Thanks, Lorraine. :) And I'm real sorry the storm is worse!!! Very glad you're safe. :) Hope little Joycie is over her short of breath spell.

Today is my day for making typos...in my last post, I should've said "the sender's name is shown in bold black." Sigh. Too much coffee, or either not enough.

Hey, everyone, hope you're having a great day.
