Henny Youngman? I didn't know back then that all the names were made up.
Maybe not all the names, but many were. They still do it today. There are various reasons, some because of prejudice against blacks or Jews, some because of being a woman. It's still done today. Many musicians do it. Some to have a more "sexy" name, some because they just don't like their name, some because...well, some it's just plain stupid. They used to call it a pen name.

I always thought the "pen name" was used almost exclusively for authors.

But actors use it...maybe it's not called that, maybe stage name...but it's essentially the same thing. And musicians do it all the time. Even rap artists...I refuse to call them musicians...after all, you don't think Snoop Dog is the guy's real name?!

You've probably seen this version of Classical Gas.

I've seen Tommy Emmanuel in concert a couple of times. Amazing to watch him play this particularly when he bridges from a song like Lady Madonna. Or as in this case, Walk Don't Run and Saturday.

I am same way about the song...I love seeing other interpretations of it.
Lucky!

Could you imagine being able to make a guitar do that? What he does.... sounds like multiple guitars being played by multiple masters all at the same time. Dayam!

Remember this????? I thought he could really fly! He was Superman!:D
I also remember my older brother telling me that Superman was dead. That he had been shot with a gun. I said "Uhn-uhn, Superman can't be killed with a gun!" I didn't know these people called "actors".

Actually, your quite right. For instance, Tony Curtis' real name was Bernard Schwartz, while Barbara Stanwick's real name was Ruby Catherine Stevens. In the early days of movies, as you said, some actor's had to change their names because of racial prejudice. Studios would make the actors change their names to make them more bankable to the public. Today, for the most part, many actors have to change their name because there's already an actor known by that name, and SAG rules (Screen Actor's Union) say that no two members can have the same working name.
