American Grafitti For 12 years (through the dot com boom), we lived a block away from Mels (it's on Geary Street in SF). Used to go there every week or two. Awesome hotdog, turkey club, and banana slip to die for. Proper sundaes as well. It's still there. The Mels in the movie was actually closed. There used to be "the biggest screen in SF, one block from that, where Lucas tended to open his movies (Star Wars). His ranch was not too far away, across the bridge (Golden Gate). And ILM production is down the hill in the Presidio. Pixar is just across the other bridge (Bay Bridge). A very cool place to live in the late 20th, early 21st. The grown up version of Austin (circa late 20th)Remember this movie????? No, the tv show wasn't based on the movie.
