Remember These???

I was in school when it happened (the assassination). They dismissed school early that day. All the adults were crying.
I was on my way home from work, and didn't hear about it until I got home, and then there was quite a few people in front of my building, and the women were crying. The men looked angry. I asked what happened, and I could NOT believe what they said. It was such a shock!!!

I was five years old and outside, playing in the dirt. My mother called me into the house. Looking back, I think she thought there might be trouble.
To this day, we're still not absolutely certain what happened there. They were supposed to release information after people involved were all gone, but we still haven't gotten the entire story yet. It's bad when they hide things like that. It makes you wonder what else they're hiding...and why.

I was too young to understand what was going on but do remember my parents being very upset watching TV most of the day.
Strike Up the Band? Wild guess.

No, not "Strike Up the Band"... let's see if I can give another hint,... a fairly big one...

The director of the film was Frank Capra... yes, that Capra (It Happened One Night, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, It's a Wonderful Life...)
...being the film buff, I still "wowed" that my Dad was in a Capra movie.

I want to say that's Katherine Hepburn.

1940s is before my time. I did see some movies from that period, but mostly when I was young, at home with mom. I can't imagine what that movie is.

It is cool that your dad was in a Capra movie!

That's right.... Katherine Hepburn and she starred in the film with her then significant other, Spencer Tracy.... and I'll go ahead and give the film title because it appears no one is going to guess it... "State of the Union" (1948).

If you're unfamiliar with Capra's work, here's my suggestions...

Whenever I get depressed about the USA and democracy, I pull out three Capra movies that give me hope again... "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)", "Meet John Doe" (1941) and "State of the Union" (1948)

Whenever I think that one person can't make a difference... it's Capra's "Meet John Doe" (1941), "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town" (1936) and "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946).

My favorite line from a Capra movie, "I don't read no papers, and I don't listen to radios either. I know the world's been shaved by a drunken barber, and I don't have to read it." (Meet John Doe)

I never would have guessed that! Never saw it, as far as I can remember.
