Sadly, we lost Angela Lansbury yesterday at age 96. Goodbye, Mrs, Fletcher (Murder She Wrote), Mrs. Potts (Beauty And The Beast), and Mrs. Price (Bedknobs and Broomsticks).

Yes, a friend texted me a link yesterday to a news article about it. I was a huge fan of Murder, She Wrote. I never missed an episode.

As a child (middle school age as I had taken several Spanish language courses by that time) we visited an aunt and uncle in Brownsville, TX. We crossed over to Matamoros, Mexico to do the 'tourist thing.'

We children hung out with our uncle who was a deputy sheriff in the area. So, we felt safe though he wasn't in uniform.

Dad saw a bunch of black velvet paintings. He commented he could see no reason to buy a black velvet matador/bull painting.

When we caught back up with Dad, not only did he have a velvet painting, he had a set of bull horns. When we got home the painting was hung on the wall with bull horns mounted above the painting. It hung there for years (until they moved from the home ). I assume Mom put her foot down and didn't allow the painting (nor horns) to be moved to the new house as I never saw it after that.

BTW, I bought a carved chess set of Mexican motif. Well, probably what tourist would accept as such.
I think it is in the boxed marked chess sets (I have several) that's in storage. It's supposed to be carved from some kind of bone. It has survived several moves with me. IMHO, the chess set more tasteful than the painting and horns.

Thanks for the memory jog.

I downloaded the video from YouTube and play it in a loop with a few other Halloween tunes, with the volume turned up on my computer speakers, so it can be heard when kids come to the door for treats! Didn't get many last year. I'm going to buy much less candy this year.
