LisaB's Briar Rose and wisteria are like that, but she also includes some 3d models with the roses. They have very nice effects and still keep you polys low. I have used her briar rose in most of my flower promo images, but might be something to find out about!

Yeah, transmaps vs. full geometry on plants is definitely a trade off. IMO, it depends on where you need the boost.

If you need the boost during scene setup, transmapped plants are great for filling out backgrounds, like forests, fields, plains, mountains, etc.

But if you need the boost during rendering, then full geometry is definitely preferable.

For me, since I don't do Iray (I only render in 3Delight), and I have, as some have pointed out, a tendency to build complicated or at least very detail oriented scenes with lots of bits and pieces... well, I need the boost in the scene setup. I don't mind setting a DOF render to run and then going to bed while it does it's thing. I get up about 4-5 hours later and the render is done. ;) Iray takes my machine 24-36 hours to render even a VERY empty, simple, basic scene... so.. yeah I don't have the patience for Iray. It does gorgeous work, but the tradeoff on render times is a game over move for me.

It's like anything else in the hobby. All depends on what we need and where we need the boost or memory to go. :)

For me my 3Delight renders were taking too long. I spent OK money on my current video card and have been happy with it and my renders take between 4 minutes for test renders to up to about 20 minutes for full on. But I've not done a full scene yet so I have NO idea what I'm in for with plants and all that. I have an older M4 scene I rendered years ago that I really liked, I may have to drag that out and dust it off and see what happens. FULL of transmapped plants! lol

Here's three that I found with plants.... one is M3, one is D3 and one is

So it's funny that you went off in this direction. I was trying to figure out how well Dawn would work with some of my favorite dynamic cloth items for v4, since I also had to see if I'd resolved a cloth room issue I'd been having. Anyway, it bugged me that there wasn't any thing other than Dawn in the scene I was making, so I did a quick look at some preloaded scenes I had, through one in there, and then as I was trying to move the camera around, I ended up finding a really cool camera angle through the plant geometry. So then suddenly the scene became about that, and I just finished getting it to fully render.

Still needs some work, her eyes aren't focused quite right, and I can't get the hair to follow her movement the way I want, so I may swap in another hair, but the plants. . . oh the plants.View media item 911

This is a lovely render and actually, I have used a lot of dynamic clothing items made for V4 and other figures on Dawn and they normally work, no problem.

Oh that's nice to know Aether, as I did a few things in MD3 for V4, and now I'll be able to set them up for Dawn too, hopefully.

I really like the top one, he's yummy. But I have to say I'm really impressed by the hands in the bottom one. His grip on the spear and the branch are both spot on.
Thanks so much for the nice comps folks. I'm all about hand and foot placement. To me it ads a touch of realism when they are fully engaged as part of the art. Taking the time to bend the each finger and toe (if they are rigged) doesn't bother me at all as it's going to be a part of the finished piece and there are allot of folks out there that notice little touches like that (like myself).

I like your render, it's very pretty! :)

Is he Poser only because of weight mapping? I do think he is a cutie but his wizard seems to want him...ex-gnobbited!

Wonder if a stand alone figure like Gnobbit would feel at home at HW even though it is a poser only figure. After all he is looking for a new home. ;)

Check the vendor info, get him Beta tested, and submit him to QA and find out? :) I can't see them turning him down over a program requirement. There are things in the store that are Poser-only, and things that are DS-only...

And in the meantime... welcome, and nice to meet you!

Will have to wait a little on this. I've asked for it to be removed from my store at RDNA but he's still showing up there. Once he's gone I will do that. :)

Seliah has given the best advice. There have been other figures released, Vanishing Point has a couple, that cute as they were, I couldn't buy (sob, sob). And if you release him here, I will pine again. This is not a big deal, it's not even a small deal, it's how we flow here.

And I also reiterate what Seliah said: welcome and it's nice to meet you :)
