The Anchorage, Part 3

I do too! Got woken by a phone call at 11.30 and the voice said "you're obviously not still in bed" and told me I sounded 'perky'! PERKY?! I'll perky him!

I'm having a great day on the computer today. Wind from the south, tide going out = no fumes :) Now that I've typed that the wind will prolly change but I don't think so...it's a nice brisk, cool breeze.

Def not quiet here ;) The ole gennie is grinding away on the aft deck, the inverter is going right beside me, but I'm happy in my 3d world...worth a bit of noise :)

Night Terre, see you tomorrow :)

And now it's time for the fun and games to stop and a little peace return to the good ship Sans Souci. I will miss doing this on the keyboard and screen but...going back to the phone is such a bummer. Never mind, at least I can!

Good night, Terre. Sleep well. ;)

Dinner here was a bust. Sometimes you just get a brisket that simply will not cook right no matter how experienced one is with cooking briskets. Argh. I guess tomorrow it will be the hard work of shredding it up and making it into a sort of meat soup/gravy thing to put over noodles. Dangit. We were so looking forward to a good chunk of meat for dinner, too.

Good morning. :)

Seliah, I hope that dinners which don't turn out right are a rare occurrence for you.

Napped most of the evening yesterday. Surprisingly, I also slept most of the night. Though, I awoke itching. But once I iced my arms I was able to sleep some more.

As if it isn't enough to be dealing with hives, I slipped on a patch of ice in the parking garage this morning and landed on my left knee and hands. One car away from mine! I'm ALWAYS so careful when there is the possibility of ice, but I never even considered there would be ice in the parking garage this morning. Not when I'm trying to skirt around the unfrozen puddles. Had the puddles been frozen, I'd have expected ice. Wasn't until I got in my car that I saw it was a whole 28F. Well ... yeah. There's going to be ice when it's that cold.

So there I am on my hands and knees, and I'm not sure which made me feel worse ... my knee and hands screaming owwie, my pant legs soaking up ice cold water, or the frustration at not being able to get up. Several 'considerate' neighbors drove by ... apparently assuming I was just a crazy old lady sitting on the wet cold pavement because it was such a cool thing to do. I managed to crawl closer to the car next to mine so I could use it to help me off the ground. Gettting off the floor or ground isn't the easiest thing anymore, but it definitely requires a stable surface!

NOT a happy camper today at work. My pant legs are finally dry, but I'm going to have a rather nice bruise on my knee.

Of course, it could have been far worse.

Well, I'm finally up and working on my first cup of coffee... I'm semi-human at this point. ;)

Satira... OUCH!! I hope all it does is bruise up. That's never a fun way to start out the day. And people who just walk past someone like that tend to annoy me. I'm the type that would have stopped what I was doing and gone to make sure the person was okay. :/

Terre, no a botched supper like that is actually pretty rare for me. But I was also working with an elk brisket. Brisket is the cut of meat that's taken from the flank, around the ribs of an animal (but does not include the ribs itself). It's one of the toughest parts of the animal, texture-wise, and brisket has to be cooked and prepped very carefully or it will either dry out completely or turn to shoe leather when trying to chew. And sometimes, you get a brisket that simply will NOT cook up right no matter what you do with it.

That last is what I had last night. It simply wasn't cooking and wasn't cooking... it was undercooked to death, and thus came out like shoe leather. LOL So today I will just shred all of the meat apart, and tomorrow I will put it into a pot with some onion soup mix and a couple of fresh onions, and a little bit of soy sauce... and let it just simmer on low for a good two to four hours. It'll be fine served over noodles that way. At least it avoids wasting 3lbs of meat. -_-

Actually Seliah, except for the soy sauce as it's too high in sodium for me, I would probably prefer having it over noodles or linguine in any case.

YIKES!! Shame on those neighbors who didn't offer to help.

I also hope you're knee is only bruised, and there's no further problems with it down the road.

Yes, I will be putting it over wide egg noodles. ;)

The soy sauce... I don't use a lot. It's really only a tiny bit that goes in. It's only going in to add a tiny touch of the flavoring to the mixture... I actually do not cook with a lot of salt at all. Normally, I do not add salt to anything I cook. I have a "minor" heart murmur, and from the years working in healthcare, I ended up with circulation issues and edema in my legs (16-18 hour shifts 5 days a week will do that to you... lol), so I avoid salt as much as I can, as it will make my legs, especially the left one (which is the worst one for the vericose veins) puff up like a circus balloon. LOL

I'll probably toss some onions and carrots in with the mixture, too. Maybe a potato, cut up into small chunks... :D

Oh definitely onions and carrots. The potato might be nice, but that's also a starch, so I don't know if I'd mix a potato with noodles, but don't go by me. ;)
