The Anchorage, Part 3

You folks have no idea how much I've been gnawing on my fingers of late...
Not just because of the pork drippings, but it's like they say about biting one's tongue when one wishes to avoid saying stuff, and since I'm typing...
Ah, I suppose that didn't need explaining.
Back in November, after a fateful day that shall truly live in infamy, at another site most of you know, I had a post removed for me saying "well, I guess I'm moving to Canada"...
Probably one of the shortest posts I've ever made.
I received a reprimand email saying something like no "political commentary"...
Megh...
I was going to Montreal for two days, so it wasn't just a joke, it was relevant.
After that I received two other warnings about political commentary when I had made none, yet the posts were removed...
I tried my best to think what the hell I said that could have been taken to mean whatever the hell it was taken to mean...
Once again- Megh...

So many times, in so many places, I now have to gnaw my fingers...
It's very hard to have lots of words for lots of things and then have to keep that to yourself.

I want to write something... Actually I did, but I edited it all out... It had to do with organ grinders (operators of barrel organs) and their dancing monkeys...

It made sense, if you could see the symbolism...

Suffice to say, this has been the most depressing seven or eight months in recent memory.
I'm just gonna go back to finger gnawing now...

Have a great weekend folks.

Dad blame it McGyver, now you've done it again.
I saw a prop for sale at a certain other site and it's called 'Hurdy - Gurdy'.
I looked at it and thought, 'the heck it is!' , that's a Barrel Organ. I think it's supposed to promote a Monkey Toonimal 'cause that's what it features.
So now, once again I'm forced to make another Musical Instrument Prop. A REAL Hurdy Gurdy.
This is gonna take more than a day though, but inspiration is always helpful.
OK McGyver, look out! Here it comes.

My daughter says that all the time McGyver about Australian politics. As soon as she is finished her course she plans on saving to go and live overseas. Canada gets mentioned frequently as does England...if she was the type to frequent forums she would probably be permanently banned in that case.

Ya know, I've always wondered what a Hurdy Gurdy looked like. That's quite an unusual instrument for sure.

Here's what I've got so far. Needs a lot yet, tail piece, bridges, strings, crank and some shaping work on the keys. And of course a lot of work on the textures.

If she's actually serious about this then England is going to be easier than Canada.
When the people dodging the Vietnam war draft went north Canada spent a lot of time and money helping them get new lives. Then when things changed back here most of those people promptly went home to the US. This pissed off the Canadians big time and a law was passed that requires would be immigrants to have a skill that Canada needs. You know, a law like Australia and some other nations also have.

However, you may also qualify to immigrate to Canada if you are self employed. Exceptions are made for people who wish to be self employed as farmers, sportsmen, or artists.

Do you qualify to immigrate to Canada

I looked into immigrating to Canada after the election. British Columbia has been on my short list of places to live for over 20 years ... if not longer.

Good point.
BC is a nice place from everything I've heard. If that is something you decide to do it might go quite well.

I think she's more interested in England. Especially as her mother was born there. ; )

Don't know if the rules there have changed but it used to mean she could get a British Passport...to my knowledge you still can, but I don't really keep up to date with it. So who knows...she does have relatives in Canada as my cousin used to live there and his children(grown up now) still do. Personally I'd go to NZ if I was going to do it.

Happy July 4th.

I took that on the car ferry from New London, Connecticut to Orient Point NY yesterday... Seemed like a July 4thish picture.

We usually use a diffent ferry when we go to Connecticut, this one is smaller and the ride seems a bit longer.
I was a very nice day for a ride across Long Island Sound.

We had some intermittent showers earlier in the day yesterday, but it finally cleared up late afternoon. Looks like you didn't get the rain we had here in the City.

Yeah, looked dry when I got home... It was pretty pleasant weather in Connecticut.
And luckily no sea monsters attacked the ferry on the way back.

Here in hilljack country, we went out shooting - an American tradition.:D It began to rain, more and more, so we all got soaked.
The little gal in the Hello Kitty earmuffs decided her favorite weapon was the Israeli 7.62x51 Galil (not shown). That's a lot of gun for a wee little gal! This is a belt-fed AR-15 with a binary trigger, chambered in 5.56 NATO (the other AR-15 sitting on the ground is chambered in 9mm NATO).
