We were really lucky up here but down south on the Coromandel, not so. Big floods, houses inundated, roads closed, no power, the lot. Poor things, they've got a lot of cleaning up to do :(
That reminds me of when Hurricane Sandy hit us in 2012. The total of damages reached $75 billion, second only to Hurricane Katrina years before.

Not only did Sandy cause major flooding, it made a mess of the Rockaways (an island off the southern coast here in NYC), causeing a good number of houses being lost because of fire, and the inability of the Fire Dept. to get to them owing to downed trees. I don't think they've fully recovered from it yet.
