Runtime DNA merges with DAZ 3D

So you haven't look on the link that i added in my message.

Are all products Daz Connect ready?
New products, as well as a huge selection of older products, will be offered through Daz Connect right away, with more of the older products having Daz Connect support added in the future. Products that have been offered through non-Daz Connect methods will continue to be available through those methods as well as through Daz Connect.
New products may begin to be offered through Daz Connect only. This will be determined on a product by product basis.

Daz connect = DS4.9. No Poser users, just DS4 users. And even, if the program accepts to work with "daz connect". So good luck.

Keyword there is 'may'. As well as the part where it'd be determined on a product by product basis. And nothing at RDNA would be considered 'new product' for this purpose.

hi, digitel & TesseractSpace! Welcome!

Alisa, Miss B, RAMWolf and all — thanks! It's more like welcome back :) not that I had more than a couple of posts on old forum.

Well then "Welcome Back!"

How do you pronounce phdubrov???

fff dub rov? Or ... like P. H. Dubrov?

LOL!!

Oh and to Richard (PE), and eClark, you can share you food porn here any time.

Says the guy whose workspace is filled with it (seriously, people, every Skype meeting we have I'm armed with junk food cause I listen to Paul & Chris talk about all the goodies they've got :p.)

We move on folks. We have to. That's what we do. We're all hit with tragedy, and shocking news, and we choose to endure and weather challenges and find ways to get thru it, be better and even stronger.

Please join with us to make this HiveWire a new home for you as a forum member, and/or a new vendor.

As mentioned before, I along with the rest of the HiveWire encourage new growth here, both for Poser and Studio lovers, or lovers of great solid content. We need you, all of you, to be as involved as you have time and interest. We're glad you're here.

How's that for spin Darryl? :)

You da man!

Exactly. Also, and I could be mistaken, I don't think DAZ Connect = Encrypted necessarily. Connect is their way of putting files on your computer where they choose where the files go and you don't get any zip install file.

Now, is it quite possible that is their end game plan? To have everything download through Connect and be encrypted and no more Poser stuff? You bet it's possible. It's just that they have not at THIS point said that new packs on their site will ONLY be in encrypted files. Just trying to separate fact from what we think MIGHT happen.

Trust me, I am NO fan of DAZ Connect, nor will I pay for encrypted content. Both of these are deal killers for me

Throw some ham and cheese on and I'm game :)

I'm there Wolffie!

I'll speculate. With my personal history with DAZ, and challenges that I've had with them personally to even release Dawn, there is no way in hell DAZ will provide support, or allow Dawn to grace their store. No way! And that includes all HiveWire owned and created content. Hows that for bold speculation?

That ain't speculation - it's your input that is based on your personal history and knowledge...

Mainly the Luna products! Best Baby on the market! I just bought Monica and Axel..very lovely characters! Monica looks alot like Maggie from The Walking Dead..she caught my eye..very lovely! :) I look forward to more characters appearing in your store!

Cool stuff, huh?

P.S. Is there a way to make it so you are notified of replies via emails? Thank you! :)

And, sadly, that's the thing.......until now, we Poser users were just the cannon fodder in the war with DAZ and Poser. Now, they think they won that battle, so we'll just be cannon fodder in the war of DAZ vs. Hivewire.

I hope DAZ has a big surprise coming because the HW family will stand strong. ALL of us.

Stupid phone won't quote but yes, the HW family will stand strong and that's because we ARE a family, a big, mixed, wonderful jumbly family of peeps with two things in common: we love making art and we love the Hivewire community spirit :)

Welcome to the Hive Digitell, and wait 'til Earl (eclarke) sees this. He's been working on food products lately, so you never know. ;)
Biscuits is one of those terms that mean different things to different people. I'm from the south, North Carolina in the USA to be precise, and those don't look like what I usually call biscuits. Particularly ones that I'd want to put mustard on. Still, yeah, I'd be willing to give it a shot if I had a better idea of what it looked like... and was.

Oh, and Chris, something else I'm working on, maybe even for release here at Hivewire, look, bedroom porn!

Well, I certainly hope that the Poser products from RDNA make their way here or to CGBytes and not Daz. I still shop at Daz, but it's painfully hard to find things. Once they removed the software compatibility filter from the store, it became very difficult to shop for non-DS products. And if it remains that way, any vendor who moves their non-DS products over there is basically just asking for them to be buried because they can't be filtered for. The very architecture of the store and the sales (which require purchase of new releases to get discounts) actively discourages purchase of non-DS content, even discourages purchase of older DS content.

Vendors should be aware of the effect on customers before they consider moving their stores over there.

And Glitterati, I'm truly sorry. Turns out you were right all along.

hi, digitel & TesseractSpace! Welcome!

Hiya! I'm just trying to correct misinformation where I can. I'm no fan of DAZ but accuracy is important. And it does little good to vilify them for evils they have not yet done.

Nor does assigning them some motive beyond simple profit. After all, why spend money acquiring a bunch of Poser content just to destroy it? For some hypothetical future gain? Or is it more likely that someone there realized that Poser users money spends just as well as Studio users and therefore it might help to get back some of the market they let fall away?

From a rational standpoint this is good for the owners of RDNA as they get a reward for their hard work, and for DAZ as they consolidate their control of the market another notch.

By the way let me make it clear this is not a Poser V Daz discussion but about the way I think the market will go. I use both formats.

Those of us who have been using 3d software for years are seeing our hobby turned into a cash cow. It hurts. The local store who knew you and would pass the time of day has sold out to Walmart, where a spotty youth looks at you blankly whilst you ask for where the "Extra pure non gluten soy milk" is. They no longer carry it. Corporate fake smiles replace a "Hello there Martha, how is bob?" no one cares any more. Well unfortunately thats life, its sad, but we the customer make it happen by looking for cheap over quality, and not paying for the work involved. Therefore we drive for economies of scale, sales, money off, vouchers, freebies... small vendors and content creators loose out. The become easy targets for the big boys to buy. A bucket of cash or this struggle? Pass me the bucket...

I disagree with comments about "there will always be poser content", nothing is secure and that is decided by market forces. People made the same argument about Betamax.

It used to be the case that 100% of the content was Poser and Studio compatible now I can use most of my Poser content in Daz studio but none of my new Daz content in Poser. Daz has cleverly made the Poser Content market shrink by 50% by removing poser content for new releases. That makes a difference. They have also secured the talents of some very good content creators to produce only in DAZ format. That also removes them from the poser market. I have started using Daz studio for just this reason. Nothing is guaranteed.

Next lets have a look at the software purchase logic for new users:

Daz makes its software and base figures "Free" that reduces the apparent point of entry for new 3d artists, that combined with the availability of plentiful beautifully displayed content on a slick website, with seemingly easy download options built in to the software, makes Daz Studio the "go to" option for many new artists. That is the same logic that made iTunes successful. The glamour dollie G3 is sexy, has lots of content, and you can get her and importantly use her for next to nothing... it seems... why not!

From a Poser point of view, it costs a lot of money to buy into, and if you go to the Smith Micro Content Paradise website as a first foray into 3d the content looks less appealing. Pauline looks drab in comparison to the Glamour of G3. One has to work to find Poser content spread among a variety of smaller retailers, some quite obscure, to see sometimes the same content on multiple sites. If you go to some of the retailers the first things you see are content for G3... nothing for the Poser figures... Nothing for Poser format...

My wife gets the same argument from shoe retailers. "Do you have these in an 8?" "No we only had two pairs and sold them on the first day. We've got lots of size 5's but funnily we have had about 10 queries for a size 8" "Can you order them in?" "No love." "Why not?" "No demand. We only sell two of them compared to 10 size 5's." No this is a real argument with a major shoe retailer... they don't look at demand in head office, they look at sales. With an online shop there is no measure of what people would buy, only what they do buy. Hence the argument "Poser content sales have dropped on the site" well of course they have if there is nothing to buy!

So why buy Poser if your are starting out? I wouldn't. Everything in the marketplace indicates that Daz Studio is the sensible rational choice for a newbie.

This is the same retail logic that will push Poser to the margin unless Smith Micro does something to make its content more attractive, or even better enable its software able to use G3 and Studio format files, that will once again open up the marketplace for new entrants.

My final point is that DAZ is subject to the same logic as RDNA. It is a minnow compared to the big software companies. How will the management and investors in DAZ get their money back. By selling DAZ.

One retail argument is to make yourself a category killer. You so dominate a segment that if someone wants to expand into your area they have to buy you or fail, or spend a fortune to out compete you. Daz is following this logic it is relentless in becoming the dominant force. Its makes perfect sense.

The big boys like Adobe are sniffing around 3d content... they will potentially buy... someone like DAZ or a chunk of Smith Micro are small change to the big boys. The investors get their money. The customer and the smaller vendors really don't matter in this scale of operation. Loosing one or two disgruntled souls is nothing in the mass market. And anyway they will have to come back some day if they want 3d because the old software and content won't work with Windows 12, and someday they will have to replace their old PC when Microsoft enforce an upgrade.

Now... seriously... who would you buy if you were Adobe... Poser or Daz? My money is on the glamour dollie.

Well I sure hope they have realized that Poser users money spends well, but forgive me for being unconvinced. If you look at the first page of the DAZ shop which on my browser holds 60 items. Of those 60 only two are poser compatible, and 57 are listed as 4.9 compatible only... The odd one is a Ron's 2D item that I guess is compatible with any 3D program. Really just color me unconvinced that DAZ wants Poser business, or even legacy studio business.

Sorry for being negative but I feel it has to be said.

LOLOL. Yes. Exactly. I've had the exact same retail experience. Right now, in Poserverse, at some MP's it's as though they have hundreds of sizes and styles (from last year), and some of them might even be exactly what you want -- but you'll have to go down that long dark hallway, take the first left to the stairwell, trundle down the steps, take the blue door on the right, and enter the enormous dusty warehouse full of unmarked boxes. Many of them are size 8; you just have to keep looking. If you find anything you like, you can buy it, so we do indeed have LOTS of shoes in your size. They just don't sell. For some reason. :D

Given they've just released two Genesis 3 characters within weeks of each other it doesn't surprise me to see a lot of Genesis 3 stuff that can't be used in Poser.

As for the '4.9 compatible only', that's due to their site's silly software setting compatibility to show the latest version even though anything not Encrypted is perfectly usable in 4.8 and usually earlier if not Iray specific.

Hi @TesseractSpace

Well, after a day of the "cooling off period", I'm still finding it difficult to follow any RDNA CC's to D3D. I've tried to spend money there in the past few weeks. I've loaded my Cart a few times (like the weekend that PC+ items for V4 were $0.52 each) but everytime I went to hit the "Checkout" button, my mouse always found its way to "Empty Cart".

I really tried hard to convince myself today to give them the benefit of the doubt. Not trust or faith, cause that's too large a leap - simply benefit of the doubt. Couldn't do it. There's going to be some things I really wanted that will probably only be available there. Guess I'll do without them. Most likely, I'll find suitable replacements.

@TesseractSpace
I am not about getting in a big argument with you but they haven't had any poser content for sale in the last few months. If they had I would have bought it and all I have gotten is the freebies and those only because I am a hoarder of digital goods. Just tell me how far you want me to go back to a better view of their support of Poser. I have time I can make the same comparison a few months ago but it is going to show the same thing. Even if Poser users want to buy stuff they can't... Most new content is for G3 and if it isn't the PA isn't supporting poser anymore. Prime examples are Stonemason and Aeon Soul (or whatever they are called now) Both of those vendors used to be sure buys for me but now they dont' even support Poser.
