Discussion of Poser and lack of new content, etc.

As for new Poser users. I'm actually on the beta team for Poser and I've suggested MULTIPLE times to do a complete rewrite of the UI to give it a modern updated look with the option (for the old timers) to use the older UI if they so desire. I like Poser but that 90's UI is just not good for attracting new users much less folks to actually dive in and make stuff for it. Folks are always complaining about Renderosity not having allot of new stuff for Poser, it's all mostly for DS. I'm like DUH! No one listens to my suggestions so I'm just there doing occasional reports and chatting on Slack with the other folks. If they kicked me off the team I wouldn't care to be honest. Sadly the program is kinda dead in the water from where I'm sitting. I have a glimmer of hope but that's about it.

Here is the thing. It is actually a great program and is capable of STUNNING renders with Superfly if it's not using early 2000s lights and shaders. Rebuilding shaders is possible, but no new content KILLS programs. No tutorials and no marketing for the new features KILLS anything.

I see this question come up quite often! What kind of tutorial would you love to see? Most PBR tutorials actually work for any PBR software, and sculpting tutorials in Blender or ZBrush are easy to follow and can be used together with Poser. I’d really love to hear what would be most helpful for you!

Thanks for asking! Okay, real, concrete asks. A clear tutorial geared for modern iterations of both Poser (and I mean 12 or 13 with Superfly) and Photoshop for retexturing existing clothes (including transmaps) and a plain, well explained how to make clothes for weight mapped figures would be worth their weight in gold. I know it would take significant time inverstment, so releasing those even for $$ would mean there is something out there for new features.

There are older tutorials for both texturing and clothes creation I paid money for and then got stuck halfway because what additional resources theauthors used were no longer existing, available, or simply outdated. It is very frustrating. There are no new vendors emerging because there are no clearly explained tutorials for modern versions of Poser for how to do those 2 things.

Definitely, the render quality is superior but to access the full potential of lighting and shaders regular user need to go through great wall of unknown.

I did contacted early the dev.team about what need to be changed to make it easy for everyone to access but so far not much was changed.

Without buying tones of additional scripts a regular user will go not far , and things like easy lightings and proper PBR shaders for Superfly are nesesery, and should not cost extra , it is Basic functionality .

For all the reason users moved out and render somewhere else for free the easy way .

That's also the reason why poser products are not selling anymore and are not worth the effort and time.

The main figures looks grotesque and too ugly to be bother with.

I seriously care less about the UI , for me the most import are the proper settings for your rendering scene , light & materials , without it there is no proper PBR using Superfly and to do it now right costs not only the experience but also knowledge.

And the last question , what an expensive software offers what the free software around the net don't have ?
What makes is so special beside sentiments and group of friends using it for decades ?

Because right now it is dying as fast as our old community .

I know where the issues started , there is a old polish saying , where is six Cook Chiefs by the stove , there's nothing to eat.

I seriously have the latest hope for Poser 14 , if it skips the most important points , it will be the end for real this time. A new UI or plugin will not save it alone .

You know why DAZ Studio was released for free years ago ? Because it was about to be extinct . Even that move was not enough to save it , not even the huge amount of content creators could save it.

PBR and Iray saved it , quick rendering , easy material settings , great results in no time.

Superfly in Poser have a better rendering quality but the rest is outdated and made up BS to cover the holes pretending to be something else, not to mention the engine need update and it's original shaders set as priority for full potential and not made up shaders trees.

My personal honest opinion , there is nothing to argue about , it is what it is and behind the scene everyone agree on it but nobody truly speak about openly , and if they don't speak , there will be no changes.

It is just sad , that once the most worldwide famous software that I was so proud to represent on my magazines covers a across the world , become something to be ashamed to mention on the world stage today.

There is no more milk Tim , the cow need to be fed now , or it is about to die very soon.
