A simple texturing question

A couple of questions actually. Looking at the Blender docs regarding displacement it says you need a subdivided object because displacement depends on moving actual vertices. Makes sense but i don't remember this being an issue in Poser. I didn't notice displacement being dependent on the actual mesh. This is how displacement works in general then? Maybe the props and clothing were modeled to make use of displacement but i didn't really pay attention to what it was doing.

How can I make/use bump maps? In Blender Render I can add and set up a normal, specular, displacement, etc. maps but I don't see anywhere in the "influence" panel to set up bump maps.
