I sort of wondered whether I should post this image since it depicts mating, but TV nature shows get away with it all the time, and the heart-shaped pose they make is really cool... so here it goes: Damselfly porn ;)

he is... the base set was submitted to the HW store today ;)

I'll be doing at least one add-on set, probably four dragonflies/four damselflies. First though. I going to try to get a couple updates of older products out of way. I'm guessing that add-on set will be ready late November

It's out... Nature's Wonders Dragonflies & Damselflies - A Ken Gilliland Creation at HiveWire 3D

and on Halloween... while Dragonflies are one of the most beloved insects in the world (along with butterflies and ladybugs), they do have their darker side.
Their order, Odonata, which means the “toothed one” in Greek, refers to dismembering their prey adeptly with their mandibles and eating them while still in the air.

They are often referred to as sinister element in European folklore.

Its common name the dragonfly, was named because some believed it to be the witches’ animal, Some believed that Satan sent it on earth to cause chaos and confusion, to calling it, Ear Cutter, Devil’s Needle, Adderbolt, and worst of all, the Horse Stinger. The name, Horse Stinger, comes from the misinformed observation that horses that were kicking and stamping around usually had a few dragonflies hovering around them. Fact remains though, that the dragonflies could well have been helping the horse by eating some of the parasitic insects that were doing the actual ‘horse stinging’.

The Welsh call the dragonfly the snake’s servant and think they follow snakes and stitch up their wounds…and continuing with the misnomers, they are called eye pokers and eye snatchers in Portugal.

In Sweden, folklore suggests that we dragonflies come around to check for bad souls - to weigh souls to be more ‘accurate’ and elsewhere, believed to sneak up to children who tell lies and also adults who curse and scold, to stitch up their eyes, mouth, and ears respectively.

Wow - I think I'll just keep thinking of them as pretty insects ;) Very lovely pack!

Awesome
and on QI the other night suggests they are the best hunters, achieving about a 95% kill rate, behind is the shark at about 50%. The reason for this is that it works out where the flying insect will be and intercepts it. Plus they can fly backwards, forwards, upside down and even with three wings. Plus they have been around of millions of years. I think they are truly magnificent life forms.

I have finished the "Hanging Gardens of Nimrud" update (with a all new DS 3Delight/Iray and added Poser Superfly version) I promised and working through its QAV process. I expect that update to be out in the next few weeks...

For the last two months of the year, I'll probably do an add-on volume for Dragonflies and continue with my Songbird ReMix updates (for Superfly and Iray). I should have the 5 "Birds of Prey" and 4 "Waterfowl" volumes done this year. I'm undecided on whether I'll be releasing the Songbird ReMix volumes as they are updated or as a grand release for next years' Audubon Sale (I'm leaning towards the later).

As for "Dragonflies & Damselflies of the World Volume I", I have decided on the species list:

Damselflies:
-Banded Demoiselle (Calopteryx splendens) found in Europe
-Orange Threadtail (Nososticta solida) found in Australia
-Mangrove Darner (Coryphaeschna viriditas) found in Central America
-Ebony Jewelwing (Calopteryx maculata) found in Eastern North America

Dragonflies:
-The Emperor (Anax imperator) found in Europe, Asia and Africa
-Australian Tiger (Ictinogomphus australis) found in Australia
-Twelve-spotted Skimmer (Libellula pulchella) found in North America
-Swordbearer Emperor (Anax gladiator) found in Africa

Sounds wonderful.
The Nimrud set is one of the more unique ones I've ever seen. Lots of Greek and Roman and Egyptian stuff out there. But hardly anything from this part of antiquity.

That's part of the reason I did it way back when. I wanted a more biblical looking environment and one with huge, epic scale. The main gate doors are literally 40-50 ft (12.2-15.2 m) high. Here's some of the Vue and Poser renders I did back when the product was originally released (7 years ago). I guess I'll have to update the elephant image once the new HW elephant is ready :)

This one truly shows the "epic" scale

For those who don't have the set, there are 3 versions (Poser, DS and Vue). In the Vue render below, the image uses the main "Preload" model plus Walls and Towers from the separate parts folder to make the city even bigger. A note for all users, the set is so big you need to use the included cameras to get far enough away from the model to see it.
